WATERFALL STAIRS OF PENITENCE
Cachoeira Escadinha da Penitência is a beautiful waterfall in Santa Bárbara do Tugúrio and makes up the "collection" of more than 50 waterfalls that make the city a true natural park. At its top - where visitors usually arrive - there is a small lake formed by the Penitência creek that supplies the waterfall. At the foot there is also another lake that delights visitors.
There are two "stories" that relate the origin of the name of the waterfall. The first is because it is on the "back" of theLookout from Escadinha da Penitência, another well-known tourist spot in the city with its famous infinite view swing. The second "story" says that the waterfall got its name because of its shape that resembles the "steps of a ladder". Arriving at this fall requires preparation, as the path involves climbing the access trail to the Mirante da Escadinha da Penitência and after reaching the top of the trail, go down another path to the bank of Riacho Penitência and go into dense forest. At the end of the trail is this beauty of nature where the hours pass very slowly.
