CATUMBI WATERFALL
Cachoeira do Catumbi is one of the waterfalls near the urban center of Santa Bárbara do Tugúrio in Minas Gerais. It comprises the collection of 50 waterfalls that make the city the "capital of Campo das Vertentes waterfalls."
There is no consensus on the name of the waterfall, there are several stories. One says that the place where the fall is was called Catumbi. A second, older story indicates that the name originates in the Tupi language from the word ka'á-t-übi (catumbi, the blue leaf) because of the large number of "wild hydrangea, wisteria and rhododendron of bluish colors" that were on site. The most recent story says that it is the nickname of the current owner of the land where the waterfall is located.
